If you ask someone outside the profession what a nurse does, the answer usually involves scrubs, stethoscopes, and bedside care. But if you are a nurse, you know the truth is so much bigger.

The Nurse of Today

Nurses today are case managers, educators, researchers, policymakers, public health advocates, mental health practitioners, navigators, and consultants. We work in hospitals, homes, communities, clinics, corporations — and increasingly, we’re designing the systems we once simply worked within.

Nursing Week Goal! Evolving the Identity of the Nurse

The identity of nurses is evolving—and that’s something worth celebrating.

We are:

  • Leaders who influence health policy and shape system design

  • Innovators creating digital tools, care models, and educational strategies

  • Advocates working alongside marginalized populations and driving equity in healthcare

  • Mentors guiding the next generation with both clinical insight and emotional intelligence

And yes—we are still compassionate, skilled providers at the point of care. But we are also so much more.

This Nursing Week - join the conversation. Let’s spotlight the full spectrum of nursing. Let’s honour not only what we do at the bedside, but what we bring to boardrooms, classrooms, and community hubs.

💡 What’s a role you’ve taken on that surprised even you?

💡 What does “being a nurse” mean in 2025 and beyond—for you, for your colleagues, and for the future of care?
